"Baumkuchen and Hiroshima," which was originally performed as a musical, will be performed again as a reading and concert!
The musical "Baumkuchen and Hiroshima," which was performed at the Haiyuza Theater in March 2023 to great acclaim, was read and sung on stage at the Ueno Summer Festival.
The first baker in Japan to bake baumkuchen was Karl Juchheim, who was brought to Hiroshima as a prisoner of war. The story is based on the true story that the place where the baumkuchen was sold was a building that would later be called the Atomic Bomb Dome. The story is about a boy, Sota, who visits Ninoshima Island in Hiroshima Prefecture, where Karl was held as a prisoner of war, and learns the importance of peace.
In addition to the female members of "It's Follies", special guests Takashi Ishinabe as Grandpa and Yutaro Zaitsu as Carl Juchheim will be invited to bring color to the summer in Ueno. In addition, after the main program of "Baumkuchen and Hiroshima," there will be a mini-concert with music by Izumi Taku! The stage will be as hot as the Sumidagawa Fireworks Festival again this year in Ueno. Please look forward to it!
